Controversy

In a performance at the CoEx Mall in Seoul on December 23, 2006, Nam Gyu-ri's right breast was exposed due to a problem with her costume. According to reports, one of her shoulder straps snapped after she performed a vigorous dance move. Despite the accident, Nam Gyu-Ri reattached her strap and continued performing. Less than 24 hours after the incident, it became a debated topic in the media. TV news shows led with reports about is Nam Gyu-ri and her breast exposure. The controversy was exacerbated when video clips and pictures of the incident spread through the internet. Singer Wheesung defended Nam and expressed displeasure at the sensationalized mass reporting on the incident. Some netizens viewed this incident as a publicity stunt. During the encore performance, she shed tears but continued to perform nevertheless. She wept backstage after the concert as other artists tried to console her.[2]

In April 2009, Core Contents Media, SeeYa's management company, announced that Nam Gyu-ri had violated the terms of her contract and therefore was no longer part of SeeYa; the company also stated that they would potentially take legal action against Nam.[3] Although the company later announced that she would return, it was eventually revealed that the issues could not be fully resolved, and Nam left again.[1]

Yet in 2011, Nam Gyuri returned to SeeYa to promote the band's final album before they officially disbanded in January 30, 2011.
